I have never been an active sporty person. Being called a workaholic by friends and family, my main focus was always on my career. I was the pharmacist manager in several large pharmacies over the years and thought nothing of doing 50+ hours a week. I did have a short stint at a gym a few years ago but as my workload increased, I stopped bothering to work out anymore. I felt pretty healthy and ate sensibly so never saw the reason why I needed to exercise. Then after a few years, my neck, shoulders and back started to ache from the 12 hour shifts. I also started to get tension headaches from the late nights of working. I knew then I had to do something as the back spasms and headaches got worse – it was definitely stress related that everything was finally catching up to me….and I didn’t want to burn out in my mid-twenties!
I went to several remedial massage therapists and they all helped but only temporarily. Slowly the pain and headaches would come back. I cut down my work hours and looked around for Pilates classes as my doctor recommended it would help with my back. At the same time, one of my best friends invited me to see her perform at PFA’s “Alice in Wonderland” show in August this year. My friend had been doing pole danicng for years at PFA and she would often try to get me to come watch her – but I always had the same lame excuse “Sorry I’m working!”
However, this time I went to the “Alice” performance and I was simply blown away! I knew what kind of dance I was expecting since I’ve seen my friend work on her tricks on her pole at home, but to actually see a choreographed, live performance with costumes and music had me in awe. There were women in all shapes, sizes and ages doing beautiful and sensual routines on the pole who were toned, fit and strong! Something inside me suddenly wanted to be like that – graceful, toned and strong, all the while showing a bit of sexy! I thought about it for a while then decided to sign up for Beginners class – what have I got to lose? And then after that, the rest is history!
I loved my first class and didn’t care about the bruises running up and down my legs – I was having way too much fun! Lacking the upper body strength needed for pole, I joined the gym with my fitness fanatic husband, and started with a personal trainer on weights. To my surprise, I now actually enjoy going to the gym and working out since I feel better and stronger. The more I did pole and gym, the better I became until I now no longer have backaches and headaches. Even though I am still working on getting stronger on the pole, I am enjoying the challenge and every bruise is worth it! I also take Pilates classes at PFA – they ache and workout the core muscles I never knew I had before! Pole has given me a new outlook on life and finally a new hobby outside of just my work!
Thank you to the patient and very talented PFA instructors who have made the studio such a warm and welcoming environment no matter how many times I face new challenges, couldn’t do a trick or just acted plain uncoordinated, I still give it another go because every obstacle is just one step closer to actually being able to do it. And that is why pole dancing is just so damn addictive while being so good for you!!

“Since starting pole at Pole Fitness Australia almost one year ago my life has changed in so many ways, I don’t even know where to begin. From the moment we stepped in the door we were greeted by a bunch of friendly, FUN ladies who are always smiling, encouraging and up for a good laugh! In our first ever class I was surprised to find such a mixed group of women of all different ages and sizes. After an hour I was absolutely exhausted, but couldn’t remember the last time I had so much fun exercising! Before long I found myself counting down the days till I could be in the studio again. (Seriously addictive!)

It has been over a week since our Hens function so I’m sorry this email was not sent sooner.

I just wanted to let you know that the entire group of hens had a fantastic time at Pole Fitness!

It was extremely well organised from start to finish. Many hens commented that they were surprised we learnt so much in just over an hour. To finish being able (or at least trying!) to complete a small routine was awesome!

We were all sporting various bruises and sore muscles in places we didn’t know existed the next day or two – but it was totally worth it!!

One of our group had been to another establishment for pole dancing for another Hens party and was expecting this function to be the same: only a few poles so not enough time for everyone to really learn anything, no costumes, slutty feel to the place etc. However, at the conclusion of our event this hen was ready to tell anyone who’d listen to her how much better Pole Fitness was.The main words she used to describe your place were: Professional, Friendly, Organised, Value for money…and most of all – FUN!!! The rest of us wholeheartedly agreed!!!

The group was especially impressed with our instructor. She explained things really well. Encouraged us all to ‘have a go’. Supervised us so there were no injuries, and best of all, laughed with us not at us!!! We all thought her special performance for us at the end looked like something from Cirque de Solei – not at all what most had expected! Simply amazing!!

There has been talk of some of us wanting to come and learn more – very exciting!

Thanks again to you and your team. We shall recommend you to others!

Kind regards,

Brigette Holland.

I arrived in Australia knowing very few people and feeling a bit uncertain about my decision to leave my home country. I had always wanted to try pole dancing and was so excited to see a studio so near to my home. After a bad relationship, my self-esteem was low and dancing has made all the difference. I feel beautiful again and am the healthiest I have ever been. I now spend all my free time in the studio!!!

I have always danced, before starting to pole dance I had no confidence and hated my body and how I looked. I walked into the studio feeling intimidated and walked out feeling confident and beautiful. My older sister wanted to start pole dancing so I thought I’d give it a go. This was the best decision I have ever made! I’m addicted to pole! If I could, I would spend every minute at the studio.

I joined PFA shortly after the birth of my second child. I was looking to do some form of exercise but wasn’t really that keen on going to the gym. I started out going to a freestyle class as a taster to see if pole was for me. I was very nervous not having done any form of dance before. I fell in love straight away. I was able to exercise and have fun at the same time in a space that were I felt safe to try new things.

I was also surprised to find such great group of people doing pole. They are all ages, from all walks of life, warm and accepting, up for a laugh and nobody takes themselves too seriously. The teachers are inspiring, highly skilled and most of all patient! I also love the variety classes offered. At the moment I am doing a pole course, freestyle, pilates and burlesque but with fire twirling, hula hooping and go go dancing , to name a few, also offered I am spoilt for choice!

As a mid 30 year old, trying to find somewhere to enjoy dancing again was proving somewhat of a challenge. After driving past the PFA studio a number of times, curiosity got the better of me and I had to investigate. To be honest, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but I can tell you, when I mustered up the courage to go and see, I was absolutely amazed at what I found.
Watching these ladies perform their tricks combined with dance, had me in awe. I couldn’t believe people when they told me they had only been learning for a few months! And not only that, but it seemed they were from all ages and of all body types. I did my first class a week later and I was hooked.10 months on, I’m having an absolute ball. I’ve made some great friends who are there for the fun and fitness, and who also, occasionally, like to get their groove on!
Along with the dedicated teachers, who are really about the fun and the fitness, PFA has been a wonderful opportunity for me to find a unique and enjoyable activity to pursue.

Apart from learning new tricks on the pole, some of my other favourite classes are Pilates & Freestyle. Until I tried it, I never knew how much of a muscle workout pilates is. The best way to tone and build strength for those strived for pole tricks! And what I love about freestyle is after one hour you’ve learnt a whole routine. So much fun and also a great workout!

PFA is such a fun, inviting environment and I can’t imagine what my life would be now if I had never stepped through that door. Who would have thought that the best exercise came with so much fun and life-long friends!”

JacquiCc01I took my first pole class just over 7 years ago after reading an article in the local paper and was hooked after the very first lesson. At the time, being the ‘oldie’ in the class (at 42) and being quite shy as well, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to keep up with the younger girls in the classes. However everyone starts at the same level and the PFA family is such a supportive environment that I felt really comfortable and welcomed. I’ve not looked back since day one…

danielle_D2 years ago I made this decision and bought a term worth of casual passes on special. The best decision I have ever made. I am fit, strong, beautiful, confident and have met the most beautiful ladies who have become wonderful life long friends. If I had never taken the risk of trying something new and sticking with it even though it was hard, I honestly don’t think I would have been able to survive the last year. It has shown me just how beautiful I am and the amazing things I can do with my body when I trust it. I fall but I get back up. It has shown me that life will knock you down and that’s ok. I now have the friends and the confidence to reach out when I need help. It will hurt but I will continue on, pick myself up, dust myself off, maybe apply an ice pack or two and I will be stronger for it. The best thing about starting pole is that it doesn’t matter how old you are, how unfit you are, how fat you think you are, all you have to do is start and give it a go and you will find the people around you supportive and encouraging and you are bound to have fun, all it takes is the courage to step out of your comfort zone and take a risk on something you normally wouldn’t do.
